2016 is a big year for Irish football and you could be in position to report on the big stories of the season and get the view from the best vantage seat in the house – the press box!
Extratime.ie is on the look out for new talent to join our volunteer reporting team for 2016 to cover all aspects of Irish football. Writers should possess a strong knowledge of football and have an enthusiasm for writing.
Our reporters work in a voluntary capacity but are given the opportunity to report on games (including live match day updates), interview players and managers (including Irish Senior Internationals along with their management team), write feature articles and attend press conferences. The roles will offer great experience for anyone who wishes to one day go on to forge a career as a sports journalist. This has been proven the case for many of our reporters in the past who have gone on to work for both national and international titles.
Since 2008, our reporters and photographers have covered Irish domestic football as well as all levels of International football. Last year our reporters covered domestic games from friendly matches back in February, through all stages of the League of Ireland right up to the FAI Cup Final in Aviva Stadium.
As well as extensively covering the Men’s game Extratime.ie reporters continued to shed light into the often neglected Women’s game in 2015 with reporters covering many Women’s National League fixtures, as well as even keeping an eye on our international stars playing abroad such as our trip to Scotland to take in Deniese O’Sullivan in action for Glasgow City in their Champions League tie with Chelsea.
Away from the domestic game, we covered Ireland internationals home and away, as well as Ireland press conferences in Abbotstown, the Aviva Stadium and away qualifiers. We reported on the Irish clubs in the Champions League and Europa League action, both home and away, and even covered the Champions League Final in Berlin.
Do you have drive and determination to be a football reporter and are up for the challenge? If so please email ExtratimeLive@gmail.com explaining why you want to work with the site, details of your journalism to date and where possible a one page CV or resume.
We asked one of our reporters Macdara Ferris to give us a flavour of what it is like to be part of the Extratime team. This was his take on the view from the press box (see here).
