Stephen Walsh's Betting Column (July 14 2017)
Published: July 14, 2017

Finally we had a winner last weekend, raising €200 for the Sophia Housing Association. The money will be handed over to the charity in the next day or two and we will have a piece online regarding that.

This week we have a new charity in place and it will be Suas educational development. The reason this charity was chosen was because when I was in college it was one of the most prominent charities there and they currently have a few students in Africa.

This week with thanks again to Paddy Power for sponsoring and enhancing the bet we will be picking the following treble.

Derry City will be the first team in the treble. They are currently at 7/5 and for a team who are flying towards the European positions and have only got one definite injury concern in Aaron Barry they are a good price. The European disaster will be behind them now after they defeated Sligo Rovers impressively last weekend.

They face a Pat’s side at the foot of the table and after watching them in Turners Cross last weekend it is clear that they have struggled to create many chances. They have got Owen Garvan out suspended so will be using mostly the same players who have so far struggled to gain many points this season. As a result I will be backing Derry.

Next up is Cabinteely at 5/6. They face an Athlone Town side who have a betting inquiry hanging over certain members of the team but still they have struggled for long parts of the year and will face a Cabinteely side who succeeded in getting the three points last weekend against a Cobh Ramblers side who have been a challenge for the majority of sides in the division. The Dublin side will be boosted by the signing of Ryan Swan this week to add further fire power to the team who are currently having a very good season by their previous year’s standards.

Lastly we will be backing Sligo to prevail against Drogheda United at home on Saturday night. The Sligo team will be minus Kieran Sadlier but they will have to adapt to that over time and they face a Drogheda United sides struggling for form lately and I think at 8/15 they appear to be a safe bet. Drogheda appears to be heading for relegation while Sligo have a bit of fight in them.

Bets:

Derry City 7/5

Cabinteely 5/6

Sligo Rovers 8/15

Bet: 6/1

Bet enhanced: 7/1

Stephen mainly covers games for Cork City and Cobh Ramblers but rarely provides any live updates owing to him working in a statistics capacity at the majority of these games.

The highlight of Stephen’s time writing with extratime.ie has been covering the Republic of Ireland vs Bosnia Herzegovina match in the Aviva Stadium back in November 2015. The lowlight though would have to be missing a penalty against sportsjoe.ie in a Media 6 a side tournament in May 2016.
