Chris Mulhall in action with Limerick.

Chris Mulhall departs Limerick
Published: July 15, 2017

Limerick have confirmed the departure of Chris Mulhall after more than a year and a half at the club. The former UCD player joined the Super Blues in December of 2015, linking up with one of his former bosses, Martin Russell, who had signed him on two previous occasions as the Students manager.

In his first season with the club, Mulhall was a key figure in the squad as Limerick captured the 2016 Airtricity League First Division title. The 29-year old finished joint top scorer with John O’Flynn on 12 goals.

In November last year Mulhall penned a new one-year deal with the club but, having been central to the success last season, Mulhall found his first team chances limited during this campaign.

The Birmingham-born striker enjoyed a regular starting place under interim manager Willie Boland. However, since the arrival of Neil McDonald and the subsequent switch in formation, Mulhall has only featured twice in seven league games and leaves Limerick in search of first team football.

Speaking to the club’s official website about his departure, Mulhall spoke of his sadness upon leaving the club. “I’d just like to thank the club for the opportunity to play with Limerick FC; I’d like to think I’ve contributed to the healthy position the club is in today.

“I’m very sad to be leaving this great club and leave a lot of good friends behind. Unfortunately, that’s the way football works and I look to find a new football challenge.

Mulhall continued by giving special praise to Limerick chairman Pat O’Sullivan and has wished the club success in the future.

“I’d like to give a special thanks to Pat O’Sullivan who is a good football man who wants the best for not only Limerick FC but Limerick City. Also, a special thanks to the fans who took to me. I loved playing for them and thank them for the confidence they gave me. I wish Limerick all the success in the future.”

Limerick currently lie 6th in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.
