After six months at the club and 16 appearances, Waterford have confirmed that midfielder Kenny McEvoy has left the club by mutual consent.

The former Tottenham Hotspurs player has opted for a move back to England, committing himself to a new full-time job to support his young family.

Speaking on his time at Waterford FC, McEvoy thanked the club for supporting his decision to leave.

“I would like to thank the management team for being so understanding with my decision to leave the club. I was given an opportunity I couldn’t pass up on which means my family could settle for the first time in four years.

“The help and support shown to me during my time at Waterford by all the staff has been great and I really hope that the lads go on to win the league.

“Waterford will always be my home town and I wish the club every success in the future.”

McEvoy started his professional career with Tottenham Hotspur but two appearances on the substitutes bench during their 2013/14 Europa League campaign was the closest he ever got to first-team affairs at Spurs.

Loan spells with Peterborough United, Colchester United, Stevenage and York City followed during a period which also saw him capped at under-21 level for the Republic of Ireland.

His move to York was made permanent and he made 15 appearances scoring twice before moving to South Normanton Athletic of the East Midlands Counties League prior to his move to join Waterford.

The site was originally thought up and named in the back of Kennedy’s pub in Drumcondra in early 2007 but it wasn’t until March 2008 that it appeared on the internet. Gareth was previously involved with Shelbourne Football Club where he ran the club website from 2001 to 2006.

Gareth has written many articles, covered many games, and got to experience Europa League finals and European Championships, but many would say his greatest achievements have been on the playing field. From scoring his first ever goal for Shelbourne to executing possibly the slowest falling down / bicycle kick in a 6-a-side media tournament.

Gareth is also responsible for coding and designing the site so any complaints about Extratime can be directed at him. He’s also been known to talk endlessly about TV shows and computers which you can follow over at his account on twitter. He now can be seen irregularly in the press box in Drogheda and ranting about attendance figures and European coefficients.
