Defender Danny Devine departs Shamrock Rovers
Published: August 20, 2017

Over the weekend, Shamrock Rovers confirmed the departure of defender Danny Devine from the club by mutual consent.

The 24-year-old player has recently struggled with injuries and has decided to leave the club to concentrate on his full time education. Since the start of the season he was studying three nights a week in IT Tallaght while training with Rovers in Roadstone in the mornings.

Devine started the first nine games of the league campaign for the Hoops but has only made two league appearances since May. He was an unused sub in Rovers’ 2-0 win last week in Limerick.

He was with Aston Villa with former Hoop Mikey Drennan and current Rovers striker Graham Burke but having picked up a knee injury he returned to Ireland to play in the Leinster Senior League with Cherry Orchard and then Firhouse Clover.

“It is disappointing news for Danny in particular but we fully appreciate Danny’s position and respect his decision,” said Hoops Head Coach Stephen Bradley speaking to shamrockrovers.ie.

“He leaves with our very best wishes, and being a local lad, we know we will continue see a lot of Danny at Tallaght Stadium supporting the boys.”
