About Stephen Folan

Growing up in Galway, Stephen played for Mervue United, Galway Hibernian and Salthill Devon before making the move to England in July 2008 when he signed for Newcastle United. Stephen was released by Newcastle in June 2012 and in January 2013 he signed for new Limerick FC boss, Stuart Taylor.

Stephen made his Limerick debut against Cork City on the opening weekend of the 2013 season and missed only 2 of their 33 league games that year, as Limerick finished seventh in the league. He scored once, in a 2-1 loss to Derry City and re-signed for 2014. In his second season at Limerick Stephen scored twice in 29 league appearances before leaving to sign for Owen Heary at Sligo Rovers in December 2014.

In 2015 Stephen made 16 league appearances for the Bit O'Red before leaving Sligo in July, shortly after Heary was sacked. The next day, the 22nd to be exact, Stephen signed for John Caulfield's Cork City. However, Stephen only made 2 substitute appearances in the league before the season's end and in November 2015, he returned to his home county when he signed for Tommy Dunne at Galway United.

Stephen made 25 league appearances for Galway United in 2016 as the Tribesmen finished ninth in the Premier Division. Although Tommy Dunne was replaced by Shane Keegan at the end of the season, Stephen re-signed with the Tribesmen for 2017.
